Allegheny Health Networks freezers set to receive COVID-19 vaccines – WTAE Pittsburgh

A very chilly reception awaits the COVID-19 vaccine within the Allegheny Health Network hospitals.Two different models used by the health care provider feature deep freeze housing units to store the vaccine — one set at -91 degrees and the other set at -28 degrees, essential modes to protect the vaccine.However, AHN Vice President of Pharmacy Laura Mark said the public should not be concerned when the vaccine is administered.”I think that there may be some anxiety because you hear that they’re required from an ultra cold storage, but we are prepared from a storage and handling for the administration of the vaccine,” Mark said.AHN leaders said 22 freezers are designated for their hospitals and other facilities. Pfizer and Moderna are the two manufacturers sending out roughly 100,000 vaccines to AHN.They are expected to arrive by Dec. 17.
