The deceased — two men and two women — were from Burleigh, Grand Forks and Williams counties. The two men were in their 40s, while the women were in their 80s and 90s.
Only 19 residents in their 40s have died from COVID-19 in the state. In North Dakota, 1.4% of those who have become infected with the virus have died.
The state added 133 new cases of the virus Saturday. Fargo’s Cass County led the state with 27 new cases, while Bismarck’s Burleigh County added 13 cases. Rolette County and Williston’s Williams County each reported 11 new cases.
Grand Forks County totaled eight new cases. Morton, Ramsey and Ward counties each added seven new cases.
Barnes, Benson, Bottineau, Bowman, Dickey, Emmons, Hettinger, Logan, McIntosh, McKenzie, McLean, Mercer, Mountrail, Oliver, Richland, Stark, Steele, Stutsman, Towner, Traill, Walsh and Wells counties each reported six or fewer new COVID-19 cases.
The new cases emerged from 3,219 tests, marking a daily positivity rate of 4.5%.
The department reported 73 new recoveries. About 96% of those who have become infected with COVID-19 have recovered in the state.
Statewide active cases rose slightly from Thursday, Dec. 24. Active cases totaled 2,329 Saturday, up eight from Thursday.
Cass County’s 530 active cases led the state Saturday, a 16% drop from last Saturday’s figure.
Active cases fell 27% in Burleigh County over the past seven days. The county totaled 283 active cases Saturday.
Ward County posted 153 active cases Saturday; Jamestown’s Stutsman County recorded 138 active cases.
Grand Forks County tallied 132 active cases Saturday while Williams County and Morton County reported 121 and 112 active cases, respectively.
Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 18,391,571 COVID-19 cases and 325,096 deaths attributed to the virus as of Thursday afternoon.
