RIGHT NOW, HEALTH WORKERS FIGHTING COVID-19 AND LONG-TERM CARE STAFF AND RESIDENTS ARE GETTING THE SHOT. VACCINATIONS COULD START IN EARLY JANUARY FOR THOSE 75 AND OLDER. AND FRONTLINE ESSENTIAL WORKERS WHO ARE 50 AND OLDER. BY MID-JANUARY, THE STATE HOPES TO BE VACCINATING HEALTH CARE AND FRONTLINE ESSENTIAL WORKERS OF ANY AGE. >> AS WE MOVE INTO PHASE 1-B, IF YOU THINK OF HOW LARGE A GROUP THAT IS A FOLKS WHO ARE OVER 75, AND ALL OF OUR FRONTLINE ESSENTIAL WORKERS, THAT IS MORE THAN A MILLION FOLKS. THAT IS NOT THE NUMBER OF DOSES WE HAVE HERE. AUDREY: NORTH CAROLINA IS SEEING A SLOWDOWN IN THE NUMBER OF VACCINES IT IS RECEIVING FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. ABOUT 60,000 DOSES OF BOTH THE PFIZER AND MODERNA VACCINES ARE EXPECTED TO BE PROVIDED EACH WEEK THROUGH THE END OF JANUARY. NORTHAM: WE ARE OFF TO A GOOD START. WE HAVE VACCINATED OVER 50,000 INDIVIDUALS IN VIRGINIA. AUDREY: HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY THAT NUMBER REPRESENTS ONLY ABOUT 20% OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF DOSES THE STATE BEGAN RECEIVING TWO WEEKS AGO. VIRGINIA HAS RECEIVED MORE THAN 285,000 VACCINE DOSES SO FAR FROM MANUFACTURERS. THE STATE IS EXPECTING ANOTHER SHIPMENT OF ABOUT 85,000 BY THE END OF THIS WEEK. A REMINDER FOR THIS NEW YEAR’S EVE. NORTH CAROLINA IS STILL UNDER A MODIFIED STAY AT HOME ORDER. ASKING PEOPLE TO STAY HOME BETWEEN 10:00 P.M. AND 5:00 A.M. BUT THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING TO WORK, GETTING FOOD OR MEDICAL SUPPLIES, OR CARING FOR A FAMILY MEMBER GOV. COOPER: GETTING TOGETHER NOT WEARING MASKS, PUBLIC OR PRIVATE, IS NOT SAFE.
